Land Ownership Comes to Haze Hollow!
Attention, survivors! The winds sweeping down the Appalachian hills are shifting, and the dusty, zombie-infested frontier of Haze Hollow is expanding. Up until now, you’ve survived night to night, pitching temporary tents and clinging to whatever shelter you could find. But as our community roots itself deeper into the hollow, it’s time to stop just surviving—it’s time to build.
We are excited to announce a brand-new game system launching at Dystopia Rising: Haze Hollow: Land Claims!
How It Works: Staking Your Plot
Whether you’re looking to set up a rugged mining outpost, a fortified trading hub, or an eerie shrine hidden in the woods, you can now officially claim a patch of Haze Hollow as your own.
Here is the step-by-step process to secure your deed:
Craft an Engineered Space: First, your character must produce an in-game Engineered Space item card through the standard crafting rules.
Mark & Decorate Your Territory: Locate an available outdoor spot in the play space and claim roughly a 10' x 10' area. Bring your plot to life! You must thoroughly decorate the area to fit your vision and match Haze Hollow's unique Appalachian horror and frontier atmosphere.
Staff Approval: Call over a staff member to inspect your setup. Once staff confirms that your decorations meet the immersive standards of the hollow, you're set.
Collect the Deed: Staff will collect your Engineered Space item card and issue an official Land Deed.
Name Your Crew: Each deed can officially list you and up to 2 other players of your choice as co-owners.
Put It on the Map: Your claim will be marked directly on our in-game world map, officially cementing your presence in the canon of Haze Hollow!
Mechanical Benefits
Your deeded plot isn't just for show, it carries real in-game weight. Your claimed territory will permanently grant the full mechanical benefits of the Engineered Space card used to create it, providing a physical home base for your character and allies to work, trade, or hunker down when the horde moves in. (Essentially these are treated as Player created ZoMs)
Choosing Your Path: The Three Types of Deeds
When you register your Engineered Space with staff, you’ll need to make a critical choice: what type of Deed are you taking out? Land in Haze Hollow can be designated as a Venture, a Claim, or a Town Plot.
This distinction isn't just about fluff or story, the type of Deed you choose directly dictates how your property influences the local economy, what mechanical perks it feeds into, and what post-apocalyptic threats it draws to your doorstep.
1. Ventures: Wealth, Influence & High Stakes
A Venture represents a business or social enterprise designed to generate cold, hard coin and leverage power. Whether you’re running a riverbank gambling hall, a shady backroom speakeasy, or a still churning out moonshine in the pines, Ventures pump life into the local economy.
The Perks: The more Ventures operating in Haze Hollow, the richer our local factions get. A thriving town economy increases faction payout rewards for players and makes your property a prime location for major in-game faction meetings.
The Danger: Wealth attracts vultures. Ventures are natural targets for local crime, unsavory underworld figures, and, in rare cases, full-scale raider attacks looking to haul away your hard-earned profits.
2. Claims: Raw Industry & The Cost of Extraction
A Claim is dedicated to harvesting resources straight from the harsh Appalachian environment. From traditional coal mines and gold-panning spots to macabre grave-flesh farms, Claims feed the industrial machine of Haze Hollow.
The Perks: Claims are the literal lifeblood of our town's infrastructure. Key community systems, like clean drinking water, waste management, town power, and merchant trade routes, all depend on a steady stream of raw materials. High Claim numbers keep the Coyne Company's profits flush, bringing in exclusive Coyne merchants who offer special prices to local survivors.
The Danger: Neglect your Claims, and Haze Hollow suffers: waterborne diseases can spread, power can fail, and travel routes become far more treacherous until resources are spent or new Claims are dug. Furthermore, ripping resources from the earth doesn't go unnoticed, Claims regularly attract hostile critters and hungry undead hordes to your worksite.
3. Town Plots: Main Street Pioneers
For players dedicated to building the heart of our community, Town Plots offer a unique opportunity. These deeds are reserved for players willing to set up fully immersive, highly interactive structures within specific 10' x 10' spaces located right in the center of town. Positioned side-by-side in two neat rows, Town Plots will form what will one day become the legendary Haze Hollow Main Street.
The Perks: Because these plots shape the core visual and roleplay experience of the town, staff provide extra logistics support, which can include access to power, specialized props, and unique plot points. Mechanically, a Town Plot counts as both a Claim AND a Venture, giving you the benefits of both worlds.
The Danger: Strength in numbers! Sitting right at the fortified heart of town means Town Plots suffer far less negative threat attention than isolated outposts in the surrounding woods.
Nothing lasts forever: Unless you work at it.
Once a Deed is issued a clock starts. The inevitable entropy of the wastes starts to tear down what you have built and the only way to keep it is to work at it. Each event after a Deed is issued one of the up to 3 players must attend and set up the physical decorations of the space and use the mechanics of the Engineered space it was created with and show the Deed at the post office when doing so. This will mark the Deed as active and its effects will be applied to the background plots that it influences.
If a Deed goes unworked:
- For two event it becomes “Shuttered” no effect on Deed but it’s benefits do not apply
- For four events it becomes “Deserted” Deed holders notified that Deed will be auctioned if not worked the following event. Town will suffer an “event” themed on the Deed details
- For six events it becomes “Abandoned” Deed will be auctioned off to other players in Town. If the Deed is not purchased then it will be destroyed and marked off the map.
